Cinchona and other Medicinal Plant Products
1. Cinchona Dry Bark Cinchona ledgeriana dry bark is available annually to the tune of 150 to 300 M.T. for sale. This is used by pharmaceutical industries and also for preparation of health tonic and blending other items. |

2. Dry Ipecac Root Dry Ipecac Roots (Cephaelis ipecacuanha) are produced annually to the tune of 1.5. to 2.5 tons annually. This roots are used for producing ipecac hydrochloride which is used by the Pharmaceutical industry for preparation of medicine. It is also used in homeopathy.

3. Rubber Rubber latex from (Hevea brasiliensis) is harvested and processed for production of Rubber Sheets which are used by rubber industry for manufacturing various rubber products. Annually 20 to 30 tons of rubber is produced. Rubber scrap is actually the spill over latex and leftover latex while processing rubber sheet which is also used by rubber industry and 1 to 1.5 tons is produced annually.

4. Taxus buccata Taxus buccata or European Yule is grown in area above 6000 ft. MLS. Leaves are harvested for production of taxol which is used for cancer treatment. Plants are ready for harvest and it is estimated that 4 to 5 tons can be produced annually.

5. Chirata Chirata (Swertia chirata) is also a plant grown only in places above 5500 ft. MLS. The whole plant is used for various medicinal purpose. It is harvested and dried for marketing. 1 to 1.5 tons dry chirata is annually produced.

6. Darjeeling Mandarin Darjeeling mandarin (Citrus reticulate) is grown in 274 acres out of which 75 acres are at fruiting stage. Darjeeling Mandarin is very special citrus which is like by most people.

7. Cymbidium Orchids Cymbidium orchids can be grown only in higher elevation with having cold climate. There are 17000 cut flowers bearing cymbidium orchids which tourist from different places like to see and enjoy the beauty during flowering time. It starts flowering late October and continues up to march. Cut flowers have long vast life that extends up to 45 days.
